Edward J. Daly, 70, of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of Hopatcong, NJ passed away on Tuesday July 25, 2017 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
“Ed” was born on January 15, 1947 in Newark, NJ to the late Patrick and Agnes (Kenney) Daly. He grew up in Newark and resided in Hopatcong for 26 years prior to moving to Fredericksburg in 2002. He earned an associate’s degree at County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ and his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park, NJ. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1970. For 13 months of his service, he was stationed in Okinawa. Ed was retired from his position with Lucent Technologies and also retired from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.).
Ed was proud of his New Jersey roots and was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations. He could often be seen and heard at local sporting and charity events offering his support whenever needed. Ed’s pride and patriotism were apparent in daily conversations, especially those centered around the Marine Corps.
Most important to Ed was his family and friends and his greatest joy was laughing, joking and spending time with them.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Barbara (Danielson), two loving daughters, Alison Miller and husband, Paul and Courtney Bescherer and husband, Tim, five adoring grandchildren, Avery and Jillian Miller and Christian, Jack and Evelyn Bescherer, a brother Daniel Daly and his wife, Sharon and two sisters Agnes Paulis and her husband, Bob and Patricia Grohs. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his brother in law, Walter Grohs and his nephew, Patrick Grohs
Ed’s Life Celebration will include a memorial visitation on Saturday August 5, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Prayer service will begin Saturday evening at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA.
