Obituary of Dorothy Joan Bruno

Dorothy Bruno Age 85, Hopatcong, NJ passed away on February 3rd at her son's home in Vienna, Virginia. She was born on October 27 to the late Frederick and Ethel Bartlett, the last of 9 children. She was married to Carl Bruno on May 21, 1953. She was an active member of St Agnes Church in Brooklyn, as a member of the Rosary/Altar Society maintaining alter linens and priest's albs. She was also a member of the St. Agnes Home/School Association where her 4 sons attended. Dorothy and her family moved to Hopatcong in 1973 after several years as a summer resident. After retiring in 2000 she became active with the Hopatcong Senior Center, serving as Sgt. of Arms, Trustee, Membership and Trip Committees. She also served on the Mayor's Senior Council for 10 years. Some of her awards were: Senior of the year in 2006. A plaque from Senior Friends in 2014. "Making A Difference" plaque from Mayor Petrillo for her years of service in 2014. She was preceded in death by all 8 of her siblings and her husband Carl Bruno, Sr. She was the loving mother of, and survived by Kenneth Bruno of Raymond, NH, Carl, Jr and Susan Bruno of Fredericksburg, VA., Gary and Jane Bruno of Lake Hopatcong, and Christopher and Regina Bruno of Vienna, Virginia where she spent her last days. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Greg and Victoria Lynn Bruno, Daniel Bruno, Kimberly Whitemore, Courtney Owen, Ryan Bruno, Jason Bruno and Adam Bruno. Also 6 great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Jackson Bruno, Justin and Jonah Whitemore, Olivia Owen, and Kaitlyn Bruno. She was also the loving aunt to her nieces and nephews who were an extension of her family. She was also an active member of St. Jude RC Church serving as Extraordinary Minister and a member of the counters of Sunday's contributions. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Dorothy's life at Leber- Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Rd. Landing NJ, on Friday, February 12 from 2-4 and from 7-9. A liturgy of Catholic burial will be offered on Saturday, February 13th at St. Jude RC Church, Hopatcong at 9:30 am. Dorothy will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Carl at Stanhope Union Cemetery following the service at St. Jude's. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude RC Church, Hopatcong, NJ.
