Obituary of James P. Smith

James P. Smith of Hopatcong passed away Friday May 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was 75. Born in Dover, he lived in Rockaway and spent summers on Lake Hopatcong before retiring to his Hopatcong home. A retired union bricklayer with Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Dover Local, he was a parishioner of St. Jude RC Church, Hopatcong. A member of the The Knee Deep Club and known as the "trout king", he enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. Jim was past treasurer of the Dover Local, past member of the Rockaway Borough Fire Department, an excellent football player and an avid reader of history. James is survived by his children David P. Smith and his wife Paula, James E. Smith, Beverley A. Smith and her husband John H. Johnson and Cynthia L. Smith-Webb and her husband James Webb. Loving grandfather of 9 grandchildren. Dear brother of Joseph and John Smith. Devoted partner of over 30 years Cathy Pogany. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's Life Celebration on Monday May 16 from 2:00PM to 7:00PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. A Prayer Service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday May 17 at 10:00AM followed by interment in Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Knee Deep Club, PO Box 404, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849.
