Thomas O'Gorman

Obituary of Thomas V. O'Gorman

Thomas O'Gorman, of Hopatcong, NJ and a resident at Merry Heart Nursing Facility in Succasunna, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday March 15, 2025 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 24, 1934 in New York City to the late William and Ellen, Thomas resided in North Bergen, NJ for fifty-one years prior to moving to Hopatcong.  Thomas was a Logistics Specialist for Columbus Lines Shipping and Container Company in Jersey City before retiring.

Thomas was predeceased by his devoted wife of 58 years, Mary, and his brother William.  Survivors include his son; John O'Gorman and his wife Linda, three grand fur-babies as well as many nieces and nephews.

Tom enjoyed drawing, painting, music, sports and animals. To pass the time he could be found at the nurse's station sketching portraits of the staff (families and pets), residents or whatever might have caught his eye out of a newspaper or magazine.  Otherwise, he would be lying down in his room listening to classical or Irish music.  Tom was an active member of the nursing home men's club and loved to play cards and discussing sports while enjoying a cold beer hanging out with his fellow members.

Sports was Tom's biggest passion and he loved to watch the New York Rangers, New York Giants, U.S. Naval Football team and San Francisco Giants.  As luck would have it, Tom was able to attend two SuperBowl games and witnessed the New York Giants win in 2011.  Over the span of a few summers, both Tom and John enjoyed touring all the baseball stadiums within the United States and Canada.

Thomas had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his furry grandbabies. The girls always looked forward to Grandpa coming over for a visit since he would always spoil them with treats and toys.

Thomas' Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday March 23, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing NJ.  A private burial will take place on Monday at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the Seeing Eye of Morristown, NJ.
