

Obituary of James Wheeler
Jim Wheeler of Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Newton Medical Center in Newton, NJ surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old. Jim was born on May 24,1945 in Cheraw, South Carolina to the late Gordon and the late Jessie (Whittaker) Wheeler.
Jim was a United States Postal Worker Letter Carrier for many years before retiring. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Jim was a NY Mets, NY Jets and Brooklyn Dodgers “super fan”. He was a member of the Church of the Messiah, Chester (Episcopal). He also served on the vestry of both St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dover, NJ and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown, NJ. Jim initiated and hosted the annual 4th of July Cookout Celebration of the Community Soup Kitchen at St. Peter’s Church. Jim also was a member of the Hopatcong Jaycees, the Lions Club of Succasunna, Lions 16E District Governor and a 55-year member of the National Letter Carriers of American. Jim played several sports in high school and coached local little league baseball, but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his cherished family, friends and neighbors.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Victoria (nee Tyler) , his devoted son, Mark Wheeler, his cherished grandson, Remy, his niece, Bridget, his nephew, Kevin and his cousin, Lynda. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Lois in 2021.
Jim’s Life Celebration Services will include a Visitation on Thursday, March 27th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a 6:30 pm Prayer Service offered at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ.
