Obituary of Lawrence Petrie

Lawrence “Larry” Petrie
August 16, 1947 – April 17, 2025

Lawrence “Larry” Petrie, a longtime resident of Hopatcong, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Newton Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.

Born on August 16, 1947, in Jersey City, NJ, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Reardon) Petrie. A proud veteran, Larry served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he worked as a skilled auto mechanic for many years in local shops, earning the respect and trust of his customers and peers before his retirement.

Larry was a man of simple pleasures and strong values. He enjoyed classic westerns, a good Marlboro Red, and a cold Budweiser. But above all, Larry cherished the time spent with his beloved wife, Carol, his loyal dog Belle, and his devoted extended family. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol (née Koeppel); his brother Bill Petrie and his wife Jean.  He was predeceased by his sisters Lorraine Luzzi and her husband Bob; Sandra Krug and her husband Tom; and Barbara Philips and her husband Paul. Larry is also survived by his “brother by another mother,” John Delaney and his wife Ellen (Koeppel), as well as many, many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will always carry his memory with them. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Larry’s very, very dear friend, Barbara Moore and his niece, Erin Malbuisson, for their constant support throughout Larry’s journey.

Larry’s Life Celebration Services will be held on Monday, April 21st, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A United States Air Force Honor Service will take place at 5:30 PM that evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or mailed to P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
