Obituary of Leroy R. Maher

Leroy R. Maher, 91, of Mt. Arlington, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 2, 1933 in Summit, NJ to the late Leroy "Dickey" and the late Esther (Young) Maher, Leroy resided in New Providence prior to moving to Mt. Arlington in 2021. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1956-58.

Leroy earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and his graduate degree from Pace University. He worked as a Corporate Accountant at Lever Brothers in New York City prior to retirement.

Leroy was a Metropolitan Opera season ticket holder for over 65 years and a Carnegie Hall season ticket holder for many years. He enjoyed Broadway plays and musicals. Leroy was a huge fan of both, Eugene O'Neill and Stephen Sondheim. He was also a passionate supporter of the New York Rangers and New York Yankees.

Leroy was a member of the New Providence United Methodist Church his entire life where he was a Sunday School teacher, served on the finance committee and was an usher.

Survivors include his wife; Catherine (Dellegrippo), daughter; Roberta and son-in-law Robert Chwasky.

Leroy's services will be conducted privately. A formal Life Celebration will be announced by the family at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, NJ.
