Obituary of David L. Hanna
David L. Hanna, 89, of Andover Township NJ and longtime resident of Edgewater NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 2, 1935, in North Bergen, NJ, David was the son of the late John and Mildred (Steinfalt) Hanna. He proudly served with the Edgewater Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Captain before retiring after many years of honorable service. A dedicated public servant, David was a lifelong member of the New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association and a longtime resident of Edgewater, NJ before moving to Andover Twp., NJ a few years ago.
David found joy in life's simple pleasures—boating, swimming, long walks, and caring for his pets. He especially loved feeding the wildlife around his home, a daily ritual that brought him peace and a sense of connection to nature. But above all else, he cherished the time spent with his family, who brought him his greatest pride and happiness.
He is survived by his devoted children: David E. Hanna, Kanela Hanna, and Alexander Hanna and his beloved grandchildren: Alexis, Vanessa, Russell, Michael, Keri, David John, Valerie and Stephanie. Additional survivors include his adored 12 great-grandchildren.
David was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Gail Hanna; his second wife, Lorraine Slim; and his daughter, Gay Martini and his brothers, Bob & Hank Hanna.
David's legacy is one of strength, integrity, and deep devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A Celebration of David's Life will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
