Obituary of Alfred W. Bassin

Alfred W. Bassin of Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old. "Al" was born on September 4, 1950 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Warren and the late Genevieve Bruno Bassin.

Al was a graduate of Ridgefield Memorial High School and a longtime resident of Hopatcong, NJ. He was employed by the United States Postal Service and in addition, Al also was a logistics manager at Walsh Trucking, Dynamic Trucking and Salson Trucking. In his retirement, Al worked in the paint department at Home Depot of Hackettstown. Al enjoyed playing the guitar, bowling at Rockaway Lane's Friday night bowling with his daughter Susan, fishing with his son, brothers-in-law and his best friend, Richie Davis. Al also loved taking care of his pool, landscaping his property, playing cards and watching movies with his wife Marilyn. He especially enjoyed planning the best Caribbean vacations for his large and loving family.

Al was the life of the party. You always felt welcomed in Al's presence. He had a contagious laugh and the warmest heart.

Al was predeceased by his wife Marilyn McCabe Bassin on May 31 of this year and his siblings Roseanne Bassin and Martin Bassin.

Survivors include his children; Christine McGrath and her husband, Michael McGrath, Susan Vicari and her husband, Joseph Vicari, Jeanie Fortunato and John Bassin and his partner, Marisa Poplawski. Additional survivors include his cherished grandchildren, Joey Vicari III and his wife, Shannon, Matthew Vicari, Julia Fortunato, Angelo Fortunato and Madison Bassin and his sister, Debra Stryker.

Al's Life Celebration Services will a Visitation on Friday, August 15 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. There will be a funeral mass on Saturday morning, August 16 beginning at 10:00 am at St. Jude RC Church, 40 Maxim Drive in Hopatcong, NJ.
