Obituary of Cecilia Ann Malizzi

Cecilia (Dotterweich) Malizzi passed away on August 20, 2025 at Merry Heart in Succasunna after a long illness. She was 83 years old.

Better known to everyone as Ceil, she was born in NYC and raised in Bloomfield, NJ. Ceil graduated high school from Mt. Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, NJ and then nursing school at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Orange, NJ.  After marriage she lived in Morristown, NJ before moving to Succasunna, NJ.  She enjoyed a long career in nursing where she worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital, St. Clare Hospital, Merry Heart Nursing Home, and private home nursing.  Her last employment was as a Night Supervisor at Dover General Hospital where she enjoyed working with so many wonderful people.  While living in Succasunna, she was active at St. Theresa’s Church where she taught CCD and sang in the choir for years.  She also was a Cub Scout Den Mother.  Ceil lived out her later years on Lake Hopatcong in Hopatcong where she enjoyed feeding the ducks and fish, fishing, and watching the boats go by.  She spent some time  serving in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. 

She is survived by her sister Norma (Nornie) Dotterweich Kays and her four sons Lawrence Malizzi, Jr., Michael Malizzi, Peter Malizzi, and Paul Malizzi, along with daughter-in-laws Chris, Laura, Sue and Suzie as well as her grandchildren Bryan, Marc, Jordan, Benjamin, Faith, Peter Jr., Paul Jr., and Julian.  She also is survived by six great grandchildren, Griffin, Gavin, Rowan, Ellis, Henry, and Max.  She was predeceased by her parents Norman (Red) and Catherine (Kitty) Tierney Dotterweich, her sister Catherine (Kay) Dotterweich Wayda, and her husband Lawrence Malizzi Sr. 

Ceil’s Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, August 24 from 11am to 2pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. A prayer service will be held at 1:30pm at the funeral home. All other services will be conducted privately.
