
Obituary of George B. McKay
George Bruce McKay of Byram New Jersey died peacefully at Newton Hospital on 9/30/25 at 9:30pm with his children at his side.
George was born August 23rd, 1941 in Luverne Minnesota where he grew up and graduated from Luverne High School and then graduated from Mankato State University. He was offered a position teaching industrial arts and coaching at Dover High School in New Jersey in 1964, accepted, moved and never looked back. He taught at Dover High School for 3 years and then moved to Roxbury High School where he coached and taught industrial arts for years, then switched to Physical Education until he retired in 1996. George also refereed basketball for 50 years for all ages, CYO through high school. In the summers you could find him painting houses and building decks. George called Byram home for the past 56 years.
Throughout parts of his life, he loved to fly planes, ski, take nature walks and eat out. He was delighted and enthralled with his seven grandchildren and one of his most favorite things was being their PopPop.
Preceded in death by parents Jack & Mildred McKay, brothers Chuck and Roger.
He is survived by: his son Kyle, his wife Patrice and their children Connor and Brendan; his daughter Amye, her husband Jeff Strunk and their children Ireland, Gannon, Casper, Marcy and Dublin; former wife Betsey, sister-in-law Jane, other family members and many many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at Stanhope United Methodist Church 2 Route 183 Netcong NJ 07857 973-347-0247, on Saturday October 25th. From 10 am - 11 am visitation and service starting at 11.
