Obituary of Mary (Morris) Marx
Mary (Morris) Marx, 70, of Hackettstown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 12, 1955 in Orange, NJ to the late Donald Morris and the late Anna (Angelone) Morris, Mary lived in New Jersey throughout all her years. She grew up in Livingston before a family move to Succasunna in 1968. In her early 20’s, Mary briefly lived in Mt. Arlington and Hopatcong before moving to the Shore Hills/Landing area of Roxbury and has resided in Mansfield near Hackettstown for the last 23 years. She was employed as an Insurance Investigator for the New Jersey Underwriters Association in Roseland, NJ.
Mary enjoyed many hobbies which included gardening, crocheting, embroidering, sewing, fishing, spending time at the beach, vacationing at Camp-of-the-Woods, and boating on Lake Hopatcong! Over the years, her wonderful embroidery embellished many denim jackets and pairs of jeans, and her crocheted afghans kept family members toasty and warm! She was always ready to open her tackle box to share her fishing lures, or teach anyone wanting to learn, how to cast their lines and remove their catch. Mary was always somewhat of an ‘activist’ in the sense of standing up for, or supporting, things she strongly believed in. After accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior, that did not change. Her heart for serving also continued as she voluntarily served at Budd Lake Chapel for many years as a deaconess, Children’s Church teacher, and vacation Bible school worker in the summers. She coordinated volunteers from church to help with the Morris County Homeless Shelter Ministry and was a passionate volunteer for a number of months at Ground Zero in NYC after 9-11, serving refreshments and distributing clean clothing to the first responders at St. Paul’s Chapel. One of Mary’s brothers notes, ‘Mary was the kind of person that would not only give you the shirt off her back but also the well- intended advice to go along with it. She was there if you needed her whether you liked it or not, to always give what she could… a helping hand’. Mary joined the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) over 20 years ago and has served as secretary, vice president, and president of a few local chapters. A CMA friend said of Mary, “She was always the first to volunteer to help in any way she could. Mary never met a person who she wouldn’t talk to and try to share the love of Jesus.”
Mary is survived by her daughter, Eva Giangrasso (Bobby) of Newton, three grandsons, Ethan, Avery, and Blake, and a granddaughter, Hailey. Mary’s six siblings, Don Morris, Donna Morris, Eddie Morris (Patti), Kathy Florio, Robert Morris (Donna), and Diane Freeman (Brad), nieces and nephews – D.J., Jordan, Dylan, Joey, Alli, Bob (Jess), Jenna (Sven), Natalie, Maddie, Nikki, Sammy, four grand nieces and nephews, six cousins, and aunts and uncles.
