Obituary of Thomas W. Murray
Thomas W. Murray 72, of Byram, NJ, passed away in Morristown on October 25, 2025. Born on January 2, 1953 to the late Thomas W. Murray and late Marion (Connick) Christo in Albany, N.Y., he lived in Boonton NJ beginning in 1960.
Tom graduated from Boonton High School and attended County College of Morris for a year before working in the car industry. Tom worked for dealerships such as Morristown Toyota, Towne Toyota and Liberty Subaru before his next chapter in life, Landmark Companies which lasted until his passing.
Tom had such a passion for work that he refused to retire, but his true devotion was to his family. Tom married Mary Jean Weil on October 20, 1979 and lived in Netcong NJ raising their daughters until 2004 when they moved to Byram NJ.
Fishing and boating were Tom's favorite hobbies when at the family cabin in Severance, NY. When at home, Tom's favorite hobby was feeding the birds and the squirrels with his grandsons. He will be remembered for his generosity in helping other people and animals including "paying-forward" in the drive-through of Dunkin' Donuts, free pet-sitting for his tenants, feeding stray cats and building shelters for them during the cold weather. The holidays will never be the same as Tom was famous for perfectly carving every turkey or ham and always bringing an ice cream cake on any day that ends in 'y'.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Murray; his daughter Kelly Beckmann and her husband Kevin; his daughter Heather Murray and three grandsons, Grayson, Chase, and Asher; brothers, Patrick Murray (Lia), and Ben Murray (Christine); sister, Mary Christine Murray; cousins and many nieces and nephews, including Marc Weil who considered Uncle Tom "his mentor." Tom was predeceased by his stepfather, Nicholas Christo; stepmother Marjorie Murray; and stepbrother Brian Christo.
Tom's Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Wednesday October 29 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A prayer service will be offered Thursday October 30 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Friends and family may begin gathering at 9:30 AM Thursday morning at the funeral home.
