Obituary of John E. Hogan

John E. “Jack” Hogan, 95, of Mt. Arlington, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at St. Claire’s Hospital in Dover. Jack’s greatest joy in life came from the love and laughter shared with his family and wide circle of dear friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion to faith, and a deep appreciation for time spent with loved ones.

Jack was born on March 28, 1930 in Newark, NJ to the late Clarence Hogan and late Evelyn (Galbraigh). Jack resided in Verona, NJ for over 50 years before moving to Ledgewood, NJ.

Jack was a Veteran of The United States Navy during the Korean War from 1949-1953. He served on a destroyer, the USS Clarence K. Bronson. Jack was a lifetime member of the Clifton VFW and a member of the Wharton American Legion. In 2018, he was the proud Grand Marshal of the Roxbury Township Memorial Day Parade. After serving in the military, Jack worked as a service technician for General Electric in North Caldwell for over 40 years. Jack was a devoted Eucharistic Minister and lector at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona and continued his service at St. Therese Church in Succasunna. Throughout his life, Jack loved spending summers at the beach in Manasquan with his family and rooting for the New York Mets and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.  He was an avid puzzler and an active member and vice president of The Ever Young Seniors Club where he enjoyed playing bingo and attending casino trips.

Jack was the true definition of a family man. He was married to his beloved wife, Joan (Purello), for a blessed 62 years. Jack is survived by his loving daughter, Colleen Fortunato, and her husband Paul; his cherished grandchildren Matthew Fortunato (Ashley) and Michelle Cappiello (Michael); his treasured great-grandchildren Aubrey, Jack, and Lucas Fortunato and Melina Cappiello.
