Obituary of Judith Moreau-DeFronzo
Judith Moreau-DeFronzo, 64, of Netcong, NJ, was called home to God on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Hackensack University Medical Center, held in love by those who cherished her.
Born in Haiti on January 2, 1961 to the late Alice Charicia Moreau and the late Joseph Calonges, Judith came to the United States in 1982 with great faith, courage, and hope for a brighter life. She first made her home in East Orange, NJ before settling in Netcong in 2004, where she built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, friendship, and community.
Judith worked as a Dental Assistant at Morris Plains Dental Associates, where her workplace became another family to her and where she was lovingly known as “Mama Ju.” She was a devoted parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in Netcong. More than any title she held, Judith was known for the love she poured into others. She found joy in cooking, gardening, caring for people, and practicing her faith. Her home was always open, her spirit was welcoming, and she was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, filling every gathering or fireworks event with warmth, laughter, and kindness. Although much of her family remained in Haiti, Judith never stopped loving and supporting them. She went to great lengths to care for them from afar, always thinking of others before herself.
Judith’s love extended far beyond her own household. She was a mother not only to her children, but to so many of Netcong’s young people. She helped raise a generation of her children’s friends and peers, offering good food, guidance, comfort, discipline (when needed), and unconditional love. Her home was always a safe place for everyone, and her heart was a refuge. Many lives are better because Judith was part of them.
Judith met and married the love of her life, Dennis DeFronzo, and together they shared 25 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2020. They are now reunited in eternal peace.
She was also predeceased by her siblings Josette Calonges, Antoinette Moreau, and Emmanuel Moreau.
Judith will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her children Joshua Moreau, Jessica Robertson, and Judith-Ida DeFronzo, and by her grandchildren Cassius Moreau, Cameron Moreau, Kaelani Moreau, Jakey Moreau, and Leo Benson. She is also survived by her siblings Yannick Calonges, Alix Moreau, Reginal Calonges, Yvrose Calonges, Eve Calonges, and Emmanuela Charles, along with many loving nieces, nephews including Martine Jules, Lovely Calonges, Edwidge Doreus, Daphne Moreau, Alessandra Ducasse, Abigail Charles, Marian Bakarr and Marcello Zephyr and many more extended family members, and countless friends who became family through love.
Judith’s Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 9:20 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ. All are invited to meet at church for Mass. She will be laid to rest at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery, 136 Passaic Avenue, Summit, NJ directly following the Mass.
Judith will always be remembered for her strength, her faith, her joyful spirit, and her boundless love. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the friends she cherished, and the many lives she touched.
