Obituary of Silvia M. Hernandez

Silvia M. Hernandez of Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ surrounded by her loving family. She was 73 years old. Silvia was born on November 27, 1952 in Havanna, Cuba the late Elio Silvio Henrnandez and the late Candida Herrera Hernandez

Mrs. Hernandez was a history professor in Cuba for many years and also was a hospice nurse after immigrating to the United States. Silvia was a long-time resident Union City, NJ before moving to Hopatcong, NJ 6 years ago. She was an avid reader and enjoyed volleyball and listening to music. Most importantly, Silvia cherished her time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Silvia is survived by her devoted daughter, Barbara Gaston, her son-in-law, Glenn and her cherished grandchildren; Glenn Noel Gaston III., and Carmela Silvia Noelle Gaston. Silvia was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Dario E. Guerra in 2000 and her son, Dario Guerra Jr. in 1996.

Silvia's Life Celebration Services will include a Visitation on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road in Landing, NJ. There will be a Catholic Prayer Service on Thursday morning, January 15th at 10am at the Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcome to meet directly at the cemetery after the prayer service. 

Silvia will be laid to rest with her husband at the Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Ave, Fairview, NJ 07022
