Obituary of Alice Henion

Alice Henion of Succasunna, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 9, 2026, surrounded by the loving family she cherished so deeply. She was born on March 12, 1927, in Jersey City, NJ to the late Richard and Alice O'Rourke Glade.

Alice is survived by her loving children; Robert E. Henion, Jr. and wife, Joyce, Richard Henion, and wife, Elise, Alice Backlund and husband, William and Mary Ellen Soriano and husband, Joseph and her 9 cherished grandchildren; Robert, Ryan, Elizabeth, Jeremy, Travis, Ronald Jr., Eric, Kurt and Joseph. Additional survivors include her 14 great-grandchildren; Hadley, Colton, Nolan, Hana, Emelia, Brianna, Lily, Josh, Kelsey, Cole, Cade, Juliet and Mateo and many additional extended relatives and dear friends. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Robert E. Henion, Sr., her son, Ronald Henion, her grandchild, Cody Henion and her brothers; William Glade, Richard Glade and Francis Glade.

Alice devoted her life to her family, her faith, and to caring for others. She raised her children in Jersey City before moving to Landing, NJ in 1986, and later to Succasunna, NJ. Wherever Alice lived, she created a home filled with warmth, love, and quiet strength.

One of Alice's most meaningful legacies was her many years at St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City. While her official role was managing meals, in truth she became so much more. To generations of young women, Alice was a trusted presence, a listening ear, and a source of comfort and encouragement. Many students affectionately referred to her as their "second mom." She knew the girls by name, noticed when someone was struggling, and always had a kind word, a smile, or a gentle reminder that someone cared. Long after graduation, former students continued to remember her with gratitude and love.

Alice was a woman of deep and enduring faith. A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Arlington, NJ, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Rosary Society. Her faith sustained her through life's many challenges and guided the way she loved and served others. By the age of 98, Alice had created a remarkable daily prayer list, faithfully praying for countless family members, friends, and those in need—many of whom never knew they were held so closely in her prayers.

Alice loved the outdoors and cherished camping trips with her family in her earlier years. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her companion Mr. Bill Carhuff throughout the United States, sharing stories of their adventures with anyone who visited. She enjoyed and cherished his frendship for 30 years until his passing in 2020. She kept her mind sharp by playing cards, board games, and dominoes, and enjoyed keeping up with sports, game shows, and current events.

Above all else, Alice was proud of her family. She treasured family gatherings, birthdays, and special celebrations, and found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren watching them grow.
