Obituary of Florence Zimmerman

Florence Melvina Mullins Zimmerman, 83, of Byram Township, New Jersey, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

 

Born August 27, 1942, in Cedar Lake, Denville, New Jersey, Florence was the daughter of Herbert James Mullins and Edna Theresa Mullins. In 1950, she moved with her family within Denville to Indian Lake, where she lived at 20 North Shore Road and attended Morris Hills High School. In June 1965, she and her family relocated to Byram Township, New Jersey, which remained her home.

 

Florence was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Ruth Mullins; her in-laws, Robert Gabriel Zimmerman and Madelyn Schoebel Zimmerman; her great-uncle, John Henry Schobel; Henry Lester Williams; Daniel Thomas Williams; Susan Marie Williams Carter; and Heather Jean Hessek.

 

She is survived by her devoted husband of over 65 years, Robert Alan Zimmerman; her loving children, Diane Zimmerman Rich and Robert Scott Zimmerman and his wife, Sharon Humphrey; her cherished grandchildren, Casey Lyn Rich Thibault, Holly Lyn Rich Bridge, Connor Michael Rich, Jesse Trier, and Elise Zimmerman; her beloved great-grandchildren, Adrian James, Jocelyn Marie, Eva Noel, Elowyn Rose, and Lucianna Marie; and her sister, Eleanor Mae Hessek.

 

Florence will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She had a gentle way of making others feel heard and cared for, and her love and legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, New Jersey, at 1:00 PM, with a short service to follow at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s memory to the Big Dog Rescue Project (Venmo: @bigdogrescueproject) or to the Byram Township Fire Department.
