
Obituary of Gary Eugene Dunlap
Gary Eugene Dunlap, of Netcong, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after a long and meaningful life. A respected educator and dedicated public servant, Veteran, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Gary left a memorable mark on those who knew him through his caring, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need.
Gary was born on December 17, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, to Norma Catherine (Turner) Dunlap and Charles Edwin Dunlap. He relocated to New Jersey and graduated from Butler High School. He served in the Army National Guard, Pvt-1 Company D 215th Tank Battalion until enlisting in the US Army in Feb-1955, and in Nov-1961 was honorably discharged (Pvt-2(P), Expert (rifle)). Thereafter, Gary earned a B.A. from William Paterson University and an M.A. in educational administration from Seton Hall University. He spent his 35-year career as a schoolteacher, the majority of which was in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, where he positively influenced many students over the years. He retired with pride in his work and commitment to education.
In his free time, Gary was an avid golfer, enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, and volunteered at local food pantries while residing in Florida. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 390, in Denville, New Jersey.
Gary is survived by his wife, Emilie Kathryn Dunlap; his children, Marlena Louise Voigts and Karin Charise Amico (Charles); his grandchildren Melissa, Matthias, Salvatore, and Tobias; and his siblings, Rene Lanam and Carol Martin. He was predeceased by his brother, James E. Lowers.
A graveside service accompanied by Military Honors will be offered in the Spring at North Hardyston Cemetery in Hamburg, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Tunnels to Towers Foundation, or Saint Hubert Animal Welfare Shelter
