Obituary of Robert "Bob" Shaw

Robert "Bob" Shaw of Hopatcong, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the East Orange Veterans Administration Medical Center, surrounded by his large and loving family. He was 93 years old. Born on May 27, 1932, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Bob was raised in Harrison, New Jersey.

Bob was a proud Korean War Veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked for many years as a truck driver with Two Guys Department Store and Hercules Munitions Inc. before his retirement. A longtime resident of Hopatcong, Bob was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need.

Bob found great joy in singing, cheering for the underdog during football games, and spending time with those he loved most. Above all else, he treasured every moment shared with his large and devoted family, who were the center of his life.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Janet (née Steiner); his loving children, Robert G. Shaw, Catherine S. Sufian and her husband Richard, John W. Shaw and his wife Dawn, William S. Shaw, and Jennifer A. Shaw. He is also survived by his cherished 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with many extended relatives and dear friends. Bob was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Tina Shaw, in 2022.

Bob's Life Celebration Services will include a visitation on Saturday, May 9th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a Catholic Prayer Service and Military Honors beginning at 3:30 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob's memory to Special Olympics, 2600 Virginia Avenue NW, 11th Floor, Washington, DC 20037 or www.specialolympics.org.
