Obituary of Eugene J. Cullen

Eugene J. Cullen of Hopatcong, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Forest Manor Care Center in Frelinghuysen Township, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old. Born on July 11, 1935, in Irvington, New Jersey, Eugene was the beloved son of the late James and Helen (Lands) Cullen.

Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Navy and carried that sense of patriotism and dedication throughout his life. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career as an electronic technician with the Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park, New Jersey, before his retirement. A longtime resident of Hopatcong, Eugene was deeply involved in both his community and parish life. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Club. He also generously volunteered his time coaching local youth sports and was a devoted parishioner of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Hopatcong.

Eugene found great joy in boating on Lake Hopatcong, playing golf, drawing, and watching documentaries about naval ships. Above all else, he treasured the time he spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.

Eugene is survived by his loving sons, Eugene Cullen and his wife Shannon, Thomas Cullen and his wife Adrienne, and Patrick Cullen and his wife Lisa; and by his cherished grandchildren, McKenna, Audrey, Kelly, Emma, Paige, and Joseph. He is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his beloved wife, Julia, in 2020.
