Obituary of Albert Papis

Albert Papis of Hopatcong, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 25, 2026, surrounded by his large and loving family. He was 98 years old. Born on November 5, 1927, in Yonkers, New York, Albert was the beloved son of the late Carlo and Teresa (Franzi) Papis. Albert dedicated many years of his professional career as a Communications Maintainer with New Jersey Transit before his retirement. A longtime resident of Hopatcong, he was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, faithfully serving his country with honor and distinction. A devoted parishioner of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Hopatcong, Albert was known for his strong faith, kind heart, and warm sense of humor. He was an avid New York Yankees fan who enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, but above all else, Albert treasured the time he spent with his beloved family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends. His presence, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Albert is survived by his loving children, Robert Papis and his wife Tracy, James Papis and his wife Lisa, Leslie Novak and her husband Anthony, Richard Papis, Thomas Papis and his wife Elizabeth, Amy Damelio and her husband Anthony, and Elizabeth Morgan and her husband Edward. He is also survived by his 19 cherished grandchildren; 12 adored great-grandchildren, with two more lovingly anticipated; as well as several extended family members and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Connie Papis, in 2005, and by his sister, Anne Lopez. Albert's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at the church on Monday morning. Interment, with Full Military Honors provided by the United States Army, will follow immediately at Stanhope Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Albert's memory to the charity of one's choice.
