Obituary of Richard Verakus

Richard Verakus of Hopatcong, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Excel Care at Dover, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 74 years old. Born on November 5, 1951, in New York City, Richard was the beloved son of the late Morris and Ethel (Kravet) Verakus. A longtime resident of Hopatcong, Richard built a successful career as Director of Credit for Samsung Camera in Secaucus, New Jersey, where he worked for many years before his retirement. He was respected by colleagues for his professionalism, dedication, and strong work ethic. Richard found joy in many pursuits throughout his life. He had a passion for photography, enjoyed challenging himself with crossword puzzles, and loved traveling to new places. Above all else, Richard treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. His kind heart, thoughtful nature, and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard is survived by his devoted children, Dena Gilbert and David Verakus, as well as several extended relatives and many dear friends who will cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, Richard was also predeceased by his siblings, Susan Bloom and Stephen Verakus. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard's life at a Memorial Service, which will be announced by the family at a later date.
