Obituary of Carlos F. Acevedo Leiva

Carlos Fernando Acevedo Leiva, 80 of Hamburg, New Jersey, Friday August 28, 2026 at Morristown Medical Center passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.

Carlos was born on January 17, 1946, in Valparaíso, Chile, to Jorge Acevedo and Elena Leiva. He later made his home in New Jersey, where he built a beautiful life centered around his family.

Carlos was the devoted husband of Maria Etchegaray de Acevedo, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Together, they created a loving family and a home filled with memories, laughter, and love.

Carlos worked for many years as a cross-country truck driver with Bridge Terminal Transport (BTT). He took great pride in his work and in providing for and caring for his family.

Outside of work, Carlos enjoyed reading, visiting casinos, and playing soccer. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment he was able to share with them.

Carlos will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Maria Etchegaray de Acevedo; his daughters, Michelle Yarosz and her husband, Barth Yarosz, and Maria Zirpoli and her husband, Dana Zirpoli; his grandchildren, Carlos Yarosz and his wife, Cydney Gasser Yarosz, Joseph Yarosz (Caperuchelo), Bart "Barty" Yarosz, Isabel "Izzy" Yarosz, and Regan "Reggie" Yarosz; and his great-granddaughter, Sophia Yarosz, sister, Luisa Acevedo Leiva and many Nieces and Nephews along with his best friend, Marcella Aravena Schwarz.

Carlos was a great and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was a kind and generous man who was always there to help anyone who needed him. His compassion, strength, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, family, and friends.
