Obituary of Richard Burdge, Sr.

Richard Burdge, Sr., 84, of Hopatcong, passed away at his home on Wednesday December 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Morristown on June 18, 1931 to the late Leona Burdge, Richard has resided in Hopatcong for many years. He was the owner/operator of Richard Burdge Plumbing and Heating of Hopatcong. Richard served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954. He loved reading, history, woodworking, and spending time at the farm in Virginia, but his greatest joy was being around his loving family and friends. He also served as past Captain of the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad and was a member of St. John’s 1 F& AM of Mountain Lakes. Devoted husband of Irene (Sutton), loving father of Richard Burdge, Jr., Betty Johnson and husband Gregory and Daniel Burdge, Beloved grandfather of Jason and Matthew Johnson, adoring great grandfather of Devin, dearest brother of John and David Sutton, the late Donald Brown, the late Audrey Riker and the late Doris McGuire. Richard’s Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday December 20 from 4-8 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 21 beginning at 10AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township. Friends and relatives may begin gathering at the funeral home on Monday morning at 9AM prior to services.
