Obituary of Elvira (Vera) Griffin

Elvira (Vera) Griffin, 91, of Netcong, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016 at House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown surrounded by her loving family. Born in Netcong on March 21, 1925 to the late Justine and Pascuale Bencivengo, Vera was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Netcong High School Class of 1942 and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Paterson. After beginning her career as a registered nurse at All Soul's Hospital in Morristown, she continued caring for the patients in Wings M & E at Dover General Hospital until her retirement. Vera was parishioner of St. Michael's RC Church in Netcong. She was an active member of Netcong Seniors for many years. Jim and Vera loved to travel, but their greatest joy was spending time with family. Vera was predeceased by her husband James, brothers August, Chester, Henry, Peter and sisters Ann and Virginia. Survivors include her children; Sharon Mullen and husband David, Eileen LaBue and husband Philip and James Griffin, Jr. and wife Dawn, grandchildren; Christine and Michael Ciattei, Jamie LaBue, Dr. Melissa Mullen Davis and Dr. Michael Davis and Brian and Robert Griffin and great grandchildren; Law, Connor, Colbie, Zoe and Abigail. Elvira is also survived by her sisters; Mildred Pagano and Carmella McMillan. Vera's Life Celebration will include visiting on Wednesday December 28 from 4-8 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday December 29 beginning at 9:30 AM at St. Michael's RC Church in Netcong. Vera will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wharton. For memorial donations, please consider the Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corps.
