Obituary of Louis Bizzari

Louis Bizzari, 95, of the Ledgewood section of Roxbury Township passed away peacefully at St. Clare's Hospital, Dover Campus surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Roxbury Township on February 21, 1928 "Lou" was a life-long resident. He was a graduate of Roxbury High School Class of 1946 where he was a stand-out baseball player, making First Team All-County in his senior season. Lou also was an excellent basketball player for Roxbury High School. He was also an avid bowler for 64 years.

Lou served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949-1952 as a member of the 5th Infantry Regiment. He was the recipient of many medals including a Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Lou Thrived on serving his beloved Roxbury Township. He was the Postmaster at the United States Post Office, Ledgewood from 1966-1992. He was an active member of the Roxbury Fire Co # 2 for 74 years serving as Department Chief in 1973 and three years as Assistant Chief. Lou was a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman & Relief Association where he formerly served as Treasurer. He was named Exempt Fireman of the Year in the State of NJ in 2008.

Always a willing volunteer, Lou was a member of the NJSIAA as a referee in softball and baseball for 50 years and soccer for 40 years. He also held the chain and down markers for Roxbury High School Football games for 65 years.

Lou was a founding member of St. Therese Church, Succasunna, NJ where he was a parishioner for 65 years and served as an usher for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Netcong Knights of Columbus Council # 3665. Other memberships include NARFE Chapter #424, the Assumption Society, VFW, American Legion, Amvets and the Disabled American Veterans.

Lou was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved watching sports, especially his beloved NY Giants, NY Yankees and NY Rangers. In addition, he loved spending time with his family and going on calls for the Fire Department.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Rose in 2020.

Survivors include his daughter; Karen Guerra, son Michael Bizzari (partner Ann Marie Plesnick), grandchildren; Melissa Souza (husband Andrew) and Louis Bizzari.

Lou's Life Celebration will include viewing on Thursday November 2 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral mass will be offered on Friday November 3 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Therese Church, Succasunna, NJ. Lou will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township.
