Obituary of Thomas J Smith

Thomas J. Smith of Mt. Arlington passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Clare's Hospital, Dover, surrounded by his beloved wife Eileen, and dear friend Angela, by his side. He was 85 years old. Born on August 4, 1938 in Newark to the late George and the late Helen (Lauth) Smith, he lived in Irvington prior to moving to Mt. Arlington in 1979. Prior to his retirement, Thomas was a video teleconference specialist with Picatinny Arsenal. An Army veteran, he loved his wife Eileen more than anything in this world. He knew when he met her that he would marry her. She was his world. An animal lover who had many beautiful pets over his lifetime, he was a friend to many and a beloved neighbor. A philanthropist to many charities, including animals, children, and so many others, he loved talking about the military and what was going on in the world. He was the most compassionate and loving person who loved giving his opinion. A parishioner of St. Therese Parish in Succasunna, he was the most faithful, God fearing man you could ever know. He attended church every week, confession as well, and always spoke of God and country. Beloved husband of Eileen M. (Hausser) Smith. Dear uncle of Mary Ellen Volker (Ray). Dear great uncle of Linda and Ray Volker. Dear friend of Angela and Anthony Bell. Dear brother of the late Teresa Sullivan and the late James Smith. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Thomas's Life Celebration on Friday, November 3 from 3:PM to 7:PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing.
