Obituary of John S. Mahoney

John S. Mahoney, Sr., of Mt. Arlington, passed away on Tuesday July 15 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's, Dover. He was 87. Born in New York City on December 27, 1926 to the late Thomas and Anna Mahoney, John resided there prior to moving to Mt. Arlington in 1974. He worked as an Iron Worker and wire lather for Local #47 of New York City. John served in the Pacific Theater of WWII in the United States Army from 1945-46 as a Military Police Officer. He was a proud member of the Kenvil VFW Post. Devoted husband of the late Joan L. (Fox), beloved father of Patricia and James Russo, Kathleen Mahoney, Sharon Beattie, Barbara Mahoney and Daniel Roff, John, Jr. and Maureen Mahoney, Stephen and Stacey Mahoney, James and Jennifer Mahoney, Joseph Mahoney, Colleen Mahoney, Michael Mahoney and Thomas and Maria Mahoney, dear brother of Joseph and William Mahoney and Mary Donarumo, cherished grandfather of ten and adoring great grandfather of six. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to John's Life Celebration on Friday July 18 from 4-8pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing. A prayer service will be offered on Saturday July 19 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Joan, at Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mt. Olive Township immediately following prayer services. Friends and family may begin gathering at the funeral home Saturday morning at 9:00 am.
