Obituary of Michael J. Morelli

Michael J. Morelli, 45, of Sparta, passed away, peacefully, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. Born in Honesdale, PA on February 27, 1971, Michael has resided in Sparta for 15 years. Known for his kindness, strength and sense of humor, Michael's greatest joy was spending time with his family. Michael never hesitated to support the Sparta community, especially in youth sports. He was a beloved coach for over 10 years for the Sparta Youth Football League where he was often found sharing his passion and love with each and every child he came in contact with. Michael also volunteered his time as a coach for Sparta Youth Softball and Sparta Pride Wrestling. In addition to Sparta athletics, Michael was a strong supporter of Pope John High School's football and wrestling programs. Michael shared many fond memories with his wife and dear friends at Penn State University. The self-proclaimed "Biggest Man in North America", Michael's genuine personality, kind manner and love for his family and friends were easy to spot, even without words. Devoted husband of 19 years, married to Mary Kay (Loughrey), loving father of three children; Jack, Mallory and Michael, loyal son of Genevieve Morelli and her late husband, Charles, dear son in law of Mary Pat Loughrey and her late husband Richard and beloved brother in law of Patricia Everswick, Robert Loughrey and Nancy Donovin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Michael's Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, September 12, 2016 beginning at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 294 South Sparta Avenue, Sparta, NJ. All are invited to meet directly at church on Monday morning. Michael will be laid to rest at Sparta Presbyterian Cemetery following Mass.
