Obituary of Maureen Schmidt

Maureen June (Reilly) Schmidt, 70, of Hopatcong, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 22, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bronx, NY on June 12, 1946 to the late James and Dorothy (Brooks) Reilly, Maureen was a graduate of Commerce High School in Yonkers and worked for National Grange Insurance Co. in Denville, NJ. She also worked for the Hopatcong School System as a pre-school handicapped aide for a number of years, as well as, for Major Adjustment Bureau preparing insurance property and casualty claims. Maureen has been a member of St. Jude's Parish in Hopatcong for over 45 years and is a member of the Hopatcong Seniors, Inc., serving on their trip and party committee. She enjoyed reading books, especially thrillers and mysteries. Maureen loved to travel and liked to relax while watching TV and listening to music. Maureen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include her devoted husband of 45 years, Henry, beloved children, Kellie (Schmidt) Battaglia and Joseph P. Schmidt, a son in law, Brett Battaglia, her cherished grandchildren Conor, Carson and Hayden Battaglia and numerous nieces and nephews. Maureen is predeceased by her sister, Patricia (Reilly) O'Brien and brother Kenneth Reilly Maureen's Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday March 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday March 27 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Jude RC Church in Hopatcong. All are invited to meet directly at church prior to Mass. Maureen will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township.
