Obituary of Michael Philip Quinlan
Michael Philip Quinlan of Netcong passed away Saturday October 7, 2017 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon.
He was 82.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Bayonne & Stanhope prior to moving to Netcong in 2008.
A National Guard Air Force veteran, Michael was a service dispatcher with PSE&G in Secaucus prior to retiring in 1992. A parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Parish in Sparta, he was a member of the Stanhope Board of Education, the Knights of Columbus Netcong Council and a Stanhope Town Council member in the 1970’s.
He enjoyed bingo, TV game shows, solving word puzzles, NY Giants, Monmouth Park horse racing and cooking. Michael loved a good “pun” and was known to his nephews as “Uncle Flash”. A lifelong Yankees fan, as a young boy Michael wrote a letter to Babe Ruth which was used in the 1948 film, THE BABE RUTH STORY and brought Michael much notoriety.
Beloved husband of the late Barbara Ann (nee: Usarzewicz). Devoted father of Nancy H. LaShure and her husband Joe and Michael C. Quinlan and his wife Jennifer. Loving grandfather of Kyle and Ryan Quinlan. Dear brother of Edward Quinlan and his wife Jackie. Dear brother-in-law of Lou Usarzewicz, Clara Durak and Michael Usarzewicz and his wife Rita. Other survivors include a large extended family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Michael’s Life Celebration on Wednesday October 11 from 4:30PM to 8:30PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday October 12 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Parish, 427 Sparta Road, Sparta. All are invited to meet directly at church. Michael will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Barbara Ann in the Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township following mass.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860.
