Upon his return from Vietnam in 1967, Jim utilized the GI Bill and received his A.A.S. from Union College. In 1971, he began a 30 year career with the Xerox Corporation where he held management positions in sales and marketing.  Concurrently, he began a career in education, teaching as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University and The County College of Morris (CCM) where he taught for 31 years. In addition to teaching at CCM, Jim was the president of the adjunct faculty union and was responsible for awarding many scholarships to deserving students.

An avid boater, he spent many happy days boating on Lake Hopatcong, as well as a decade of managing the Morris County Marina in Mt Arlington.  For more than 20 years, he was a NJ Boating Safety Certificate instructor.  During retirement, he was a Eucharistic Minister and an ambulance driver with the Mt Arlington Rescue Squad.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the 44 year marriage to the love of his life, his best friend, and wife, Marlene.  He took great pride in seeing his son, James, Jr. and daughter Lauren, married to Matthew Milde, grow to be the strong, independent and successful people they are today. Known as Grampy to his grandsons, James III and Joseph, he cherished his time spent with them.  Jim will lovingly be remembered by his sister in laws, Rosemary Caprio and Janet Bocchino, his nephew, Vito Caprio and his family; his nieces, Carolyn Cavallo Caprio, and Lindsay Houston and their children. The family continues to cherish the lifetime friendship of Sue and Phil Ackermann, along with Walter O’Grady and James Garry as well as many other long time friends.
