Obituary of Shirley Acla
Shirley Acla of Mt. Arlington, NJ passed away after a long illness on Friday, September 14, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family and her faithful canine companion, Lola. She was 93 years old. Shirley was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on November 21, 1924 to Sterling and Bessie Stahr.
Shirley was a registered nurse and worked at several area hospitals before retiring. She enjoyed golf and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Golf Club for many years. Her passion was needle point, and her beautiful framed pieces adorned the walls of her home. She was a whiz at crossword puzzles; she loved playing mahjong with friends and solitaire on her nook; and she was always, always reading a good book.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Marjorie List & her husband, James, Kim Giacomini & her husband, Gino, Lynne Song, and Robin Stannard & her husband, David and her cherished grandchildren, Morgan, David, Kristen, Caitlyn, and Emily and her great granddaughter, Reese. Additional survivors include her siblings, Beverly Knopick & her husband, Thomas, and Alan Stahr & his wife, Gail, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 2009 and her daughter, Nancy Callahan in 2015.
Shirley's Life Celebration will include a private family visitation and prayer service. She will be laid to rest at the Locust Hill Mausoleum in Dover, NJ. All services are entrusted to the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home of Landing, NJ. For memorial donations, please consider an Animal Shelter or the Charity of One's Choice.
