Obituary of James C. Franco

James C. Franco, 79, of Hopatcong passed away peacefully on Monday September 17, 2018 at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville Campus.

Born in Queens, NY, on October 27, 1938 to James and Ida Franco, "Jim" has resided in Hopatcong for 54 years. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1959-1963. Jim worked as a shipfitter at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and then as a Switchman at Verizon in Landing. Jim was one of the founding volunteers and coaches for the Hopatcong Eagles/Hawks Youth Track program and the Hopatcong Hawks Youth Soccer program.

Jim was a Life Member of the Hopatcong Hills Fire and Rescue #4 where he served as Captain, as well as, Treasurer in his 53 years of service. He also served as Treasurer for all of the Fire Departments in the Borough of Hopatcong. For his tireless dedication to the Borough of Hopatcong, October 19, 2016 was celebrated as "Jim Franco Day".

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carol (Spinosa), daughter, Debra Franco and her spouse, Carol, son Scott Franco and his spouse, April and a grandson, Liam Kennison.

Jim's Life Celebration will include visiting on Friday September 21, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Fireman's service will be conducted Friday evening at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Fireman's Last Call will begin Saturday September 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM from the funeral home. Family and friends may begin gathering at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 9:30 AM prior to ceremonies.
