Obituary of Raymond Vreeland
Raymond Vreeland, 72, of Hopatcong, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday October 23rd, 2018 at St. Clare's Hospital, Dover Campus.
Born in Glen Ridge, NJ on January 7th, 1946 to the late Raymond and Doris (Milne) Vreeland, "Ray" has been a resident of Hopatcong since 1968. He served proudly in the United States Air Force and worked as a salesman for Pella Windows in West Caldwell. Ray was a dedicated volunteer and leader for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America in Hopatcong. He also volunteered for 46 years for Northwood Engine Co. #2 in Hopatcong where he held nearly every rank including Assistant Engineer, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Secretary and Treasurer. Ray wrote the Map Book that is currently carried in every emergency vehicle in the Borough of Hopatcong. Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of a band called "The Satellites" which played at the 1964 Worlds' Fair in Queens, NY.
Survivors include his three children, Scott, Sean and Colleen, first wife, Sharon, second wife, Laura and two brothers, John and wife, Barbara and Timothy and wife, Virginia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Ray's Life Celebration will include visiting on Tuesday October 30th, 2018 from,4-8 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Fireman's service will be offered on Wednesday October 31st, 2018 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home followed by Fireman's procession and "Last Call" at Northwood Engine Co. #2 in Hopatcong.
