Obituary of Barbara H. Keefe

Barbara H. (nee Hefner) Keefe of Mt. Arlington passed away Tuesday September 24, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center.  She was 85.

Born in Kenmore, New York, she lived in Buffalo and Endwell, New York before moving to Mt. Arlington 45 years ago. 

She met the love of her life, Peter G. Keefe at Alleghany State Park in upstate New York and they were married 65 years.

She had several jobs besides homemaker, lastly, she worked as the Director of Social Activities with the Morris County Adult Day Care Center in Morris Township.

She was Chairman of the Social Justice Committee for Our Lady of the Lake Church as well as the Leader of the Prayer Group, CCD teacher and organized the food pantry drive for many years.  She collaborated with the Church to sponsor a family from Vietnam who became lifelong friends and visited often.  She was compassionate and caring, gave everyone her undivided attention and listened without judgement.

As a mother of 7 children, she exemplified service to others above self. She personified character and integrity and stressed responsibility for ones own actions and decisions.

She enjoyed painting and reading and singing.  She was an avid lake enthusiast whether it be Erie, Alleghany and Lake Hopatcong.  She was president of MAKPOA and did her best to protect the lake and the beach she loved. 

Devoted mother to Kevin and his wife Kelly, Laura and her husband Tom, Barb, Paul, Michael and his wife Carolyn, Susan and her husband Anthony, Peter Jr and his wife Cheryl.  Cherished grandmother to Sara, Steve, Tedi, Casey and his wife Laura, Kyle and his fiancée Summer, Connor, Michelle, Nick, Erin and Kevin.  Loving great grandmother to Emma Marie.  Dear sister of Pamela Kaiser.  Beloved Aunt to 9 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Barbara’s Life Celebration on Sunday September 29 from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm at the Leber- Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake RC Church 8 Windemere Avenue Mt. Arlington.

All are invited to meet directly at the church. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Selasian Missions water project.  www.salesianmissions.org
