Obituary of Ian Lincoln McKechnie

IAN LINCOLN MCKECHNIE, long time resident of Rockaway, White Meadow Lake, New Jersey, born February 12, 1936, lost a brief but gallant fight with cancer on Sunday March 8, 2015. Ian was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island into an immigrant family of Scots. He was a 1953 graduate of Moses Brown School and in 1958 earned a Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Rhode Island. Upon graduation, he was enlisted by the U.S. Army's Picatinny Arsenal, where he spent a 38-year career, earning senior ranking and a number of special awards for performance excellence. Ian is survived by his three children, Mary Lee Plate (Chuck), Ian Douglas (Ilene) and David (Terri), eight grandchildren, his brother Roy (Barbara), and his many nieces and nephews. Family, spending time with his grandchildren, and church were his biggest passions. He enjoyed auto racing, making music in the church bell & choral choir, and his weekly "dates" with his Weight Watchers family. Ian's Life Celebration will include a memorial gathering on Thursday March 12 from 4-8PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. In lieu of flowers please make all donations to 'Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains'. The monies shall be shared equally between the Grazio Bell Choir and the Church Choir. You can send all donations to the church address of 400 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ, 07950. There will be an additional Life Celebration Service (Memorial Service) held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains. The time will be announced.
