Obituary of Robert J. O'Connor, Jr.

Robert J. O'Connor, Jr., 75, of Mt. Arlington, passed away, peacefully at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bayonne, on December 31, 1944 to the late Robert J., Sr. and Stella (Keating) O'Connor, "Bob" resided in Palisades Park and Pt. Pleasant Beach prior to moving to Mt. Arlington in 1976. He was a Master Plumber and co-owner/operator of O'Connor Plumbing, Heating and Excavating in Hopatcong prior to becoming the Plumbing Sub-Code Official for Roxbury Township and Tewksbury Township, as well as Allamuchy Township. Bob also taught National Plumbing Code at Morris County School of Technology for 15 years. He served as the Chairman and two years as Vice-Chairman of the Mt. Arlington Planning Board during his twelve years of sevice. Earlier in life, Bob served proudly in the US Army from 1967-1971. His first occupation was as a Troubleshooter on the floor of the American Stock Exchange. He also worked as a Plumbing Foreman for K. Walters Mechanical Contractors in Fairfield. Bob enjoyed camping and boating, as well as skiing, mostly because it allowed him to pursue his favorite hobby of spending time with his family. He would dedicate hours and hours to pulling his children, when they were younger, behind his boat on Lake Hopatcong tubing and water skiing. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by a brother, Charles "Chip" O'Connor. Survivors include his wife, Lois (Mongiello), children, Keith Robert (Kathy), Colleen Santarpia (Frank) and Kyle Patrick (Karen), ten grandchildren, Alexis and Nikki Lang, Keegan, Kipp and Killian O'Connor, Colin, Stella and Aiden Santarpia and Nate and Mason O'Connor, siblings Elizabeth, Kathleen, James, Richard (Debbie) and William (Carolyn). Bob's Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday March 8, 2020 from 3-7 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday March 9, 2020 beginning at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Mt. Arlington. Bob will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester Township, NJ.
