Sigrid Weissman

Obituary of Sigrid Weissman

Sigrid Johanna Maria Weissman passed away Friday June 12th at the age of 91. She was born on March 2nd, 1929, in Dresden, Germany to Hilde (née Schneider) and Johannes Mueller. She loved and excelled at sports (especially track and field) as well as academics (especially Latin). She and her husband Joseph settled with their son Ronald in Irvington, New Jersey and later Hanover Township, New Jersey, which was her home for 60 years. Sigrid worked for Taumer construction in Germany, and later in New Jersey at CIBA, SBC, and Bell Labs, as a key punch operator and programmer. She was also a partner (with her husband) in managing Economy Transmission in Morristown and Somerville. Sigrid pursued computer science certification and later a political science degree at Montclair State University. She was an avid tennis player and fan, enjoyed relaxing at Hilton Head, South Carolina (driving down on her own), playing chess, and "intelligent people". She appreciated working hard with a fix-it attitude, valued her independence, enjoyed her garden, cigarettes, black coffee, Coca-Cola and spending time with her family. She was fiercely loyal to those she cared about and possessed a life-long love of learning and competing. Sigrid was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hans, brother-in-law Harry, and husband Joseph. This "tough cookie" will be missed by her son, granddaughters Tamara and Naomi, close friends Lenny and Gundolf, and others who loved her inimitable sense of the world. Her family would like to thank her neighbors for looking out for her and the nursing staff at Morristown Memorial Hospital for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust http://cst.dav.org/
