Obituary of Hildegard Anna Godwin

Hildegard Anna Godwin passed away Sunday August 9, 2020. She was 92. Born in Silesia in Poland, Hildegard came to the United States in 1960. She lived in Dover prior to moving to West Columbia, South Carolina. After that she was a resident of Centennial Courts in Wharton then moving to Regency Grande in Dover. A homemaker, she was a member of the NCO Wives Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and senior club's in the communities where she lived and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #2833 in Kenvil. Her proudest moment was becoming an American citizen having married her husband Luther a career Army SGM while stationed in Germany. She was a true patriot always supporting his 36 year career ending with his last assignment as the Army Advisor to the National Guard in Dover. She was a caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She always thought of others before herself. A volunteer with St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, Hildegard enjoyed Sudoku, bowling, crossword puzzles, canasta, crocheting, knitting, reading, scrabble, watching game shows, talk shows and the news. She also loved country music and her favorite singer was George Strait. Beloved wife of the late Luther. Devoted mother of Elisabeth A. Sann (Ray). Loving grandmother of David Sann. She is also survived in Germany by her sister Eteltraud, many nieces especially Sybille who just visited her last year on her birthday. And also by many other family members in Poland. Immediate arrangements are private with a Life Celebration for Hildegard will be planned in the future. Memorial donations may be made to VFW Auxiliary Post #2833, c/o Lorraine Brooks, Treasurer, 110 Buttermilk Bridge Road, Washington, NJ 07882. These donations will go to support veterans and their families in and outside of the hospitals.
