Obituary of Hope L. Sarson

Hope L. (Schelling) Sarson, 87, passed away on Friday March 29, 2013 at Heath Village Health Care Center. Born in Hopatcong to the late William H. and Hazel V. Schelling, Hope grew up in Hopatcong and resided there before moving to Mine Hill in 1953. Hope attended Hudson Maxim School in Hopatcong and graduated from Roxbury High School in 1943. In her youth, she avidly enjoyed all lake activities including boating, swimming, water skiing, picnics on Bed Bug Island and ice skating. Her interests also included bowling, golfing, playing canasta, reading, following current events, cooking for her family and spending family vacations in Wildwood, NJ and Lake George, NY. Hope worked as a receptionist/switchboard operator for Acme Metal Products in Dover and at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway in the File Section of the War Ordnance Department and later, as an administrative assistant in the Self-Propelled Branch before retiring in 1983. She was a member of N.A.R.F.E. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William S. Sarson (2009), a brother, Therin Schelling and four sisters, Viola Potts, Eleanor Gallagher, Bernice Carter and Margrette Granato. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Samuel McMillan, her two grandsons, Steven and Timothy McMillan, a brother, William Schelling, three sisters, Merle (Sue) Blaich, Agatha Guerriere and Sallyann Search and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing.
