Obituary of George Prakofywa

George Prakofywa of Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old. George was born on December 5, 1946 in Munich, Germany to the late Nikolay Kalaschenkow and the late Nadeschda (Prokofieva) Kalaschenkow. George was employed as a tool and die maker for many years before retiring. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and served as a military police officer. George enjoyed all types of fishing and gardening but most importantly, he loved spending time with his cherished and devoted family. He was a very giving and unselfish person and took great pride in being fortunate enough to help out his family. George is survived by his son, Johnathan David Prakofywa, his daughters, Elaine Umstead, Karen Rae Prakofywa and Sarah Judith Zelins and her husband Peter. Additional survivors include his cherished grandchildren, Brianna Alexis Prakofywa, Samuel Ronald and Benjamin George Zelins, his siblings, Larisa Kalaschenkow, Rima Kalaschenkow, Anatoli Lutz, Eugeny Kalaschenkow and Svetlana Medlock and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Rae "Judy" in 2019 and his sister, Vera Kalaschenkow. There will be a Life Celebration gathering on Saturday, January 16th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm with a prayer service offered at 4:30 pm for both George and his beloved wife Judy who passed away on May 16, 2019 at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850.
