Obituary of Anita Gloria Howe

Anita Gloria Howe, 78, of Hopatcong passed away peacefully on Monday January 18, 2021 at her home and surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 25, 1942 in Manhattan to the late Joseph and Pauline (Colletti) Milano, Anita graduated New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, NY and was a lifetime learner. Anita moved to Hopatcong in 1962. She worked for the Randolph Board of Education where she served as Secretary to the Superintendent and other administrative positions for 25 years. She also worked at International Paper as administrative support for ten years. Anita was a devoted and loving wife to her husband James, sharing 54 years of marriage. She was equally devoted to her three children and eight grandchildren. Anita enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved watching her grandchildren and supporting all their endeavors and going out to dine with friends. She was especially fond of preparing meals for all. She enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows on Masterpiece Theater and the Bachelor and Bachelorette. Anita loved music and was a devoted Elvis Presley fan and visited Graceland with her husband James. She loved traveling, especially family trips to Cape May. Most of all, Anita loved "her people"; family and friends alike. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Anita was predeceased by her husband, James in 2016 and a sister in law Dorothy Maino. Survivors include her children, Lauri Ann Howe, Kathleen Elizabeth Hertzig and husband Brett and James Joseph Howe and wife Michele, brothers, Charles Milano and partner Maureen Schiaffino and Joseph Milano and wife Lucille, eight grandchildren Kristen, Amy, Lauren, Christian, Samantha, Olivia, Ethan and James, daughter in law, Maria Howe, brothers in law, Dr. Joseph Howe and wife Lois, Kenneth Howe and wife, Carolyn and Michael Maino, sister in law Maryann Kalegi and husband Edward. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Anita's Life Celebration will include visiting on Thursday January 21 from 4-8 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday January 22 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Church, 40 Maxim Drive, Hopatcong, NJ. Anita will be entombed in Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum in East Hanover.
