Obituary of Robert S. Yates, Sr.

Robert S. Yates, Sr., 93, of Hopatcong passed away on Tuesday February 2, 2021. Born in LaPlume, PA on August 11, 1927 to the late Percy and Rose (Bevan) Yates, "Bob" has resided in Hopatcong for over 60 years. He served proudly in the United States Air Force, 8th Battalion as a Radio Operator and Repairman on the B-17 bombers. Bob was a founding member and past president of Hopatcong Hills Fire & Rescue Company #4 in Hopatcong and an original member of the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad. Bob was the Construction Official in the Borough of Hopatcong for 33 years from 1962-1995. He also worked for Modick Wood Products in Hopatcong. Bob's true passion was building cabinets, bars and tables and various other wood products. He was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Hopatcong Days Parade in 1990. He loved playing golf with his buddies and traveling with his sister in law and brother in law, Lorraine and Jerry which Bob considered "the best of times". He was a parishioner of St. Jude's Church in Hopatcong for many years. Bob also worked at Newman Construction for his father in law, Robert Newman. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Marie (Newman) in 2012 and brother, Donald. Survivors include his children, Robert Yates, Jr., Donna Geary, Marie Compano and Lorraine Cucinella (Sal), grandchildren Sal (Jamie), Lisamarie, Eric (Bethany), Jimmy (Marissa) Dominick, Hannah and Donald and great grandchildren Quinn Ava, Rylee Paige and Antonio James. Bob's Life Celebration will include a "walk-through" visitation on Monday February 8, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. Visitors are asked to minimize their time due to capacity restrictions set forth by Governor's executive orders. Bob will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
