I was both shocked and saddened when I heard of Steve's death today through a mutual friend, I remember him from my childhood and early adulthood. He was a friendly and outgoing person who was always willing to help others. My condolences to his family.
Steve will be missed as a volleyball official. As a player I was officiated by him on many occasions, and as a fellow official I was lucky enough to have worked with him. He has mentored me as an official even when he didn't know he was. Like many other good officials, his words of wisdom/advice have impacted my career as an official in a positive way. He will be dearly missed.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathies. I worked with Steve and considered him a great personal friend. He was a very kind and gentle person with a heart opened to everyone. Words and expressions though can never replace the absence of his being.
