Mary Lytle

Obituary of Mary Lytle

Life Story Mary Lytle of Lake Hopatcong passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on April 1, 2021. Born Mary Rose Quaranta in Santomenna, Italy, she immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 5 and settled in Jersey City with her late parents (Vincenzo and Mariangela) and her three older brothers (the late Albert Quaranta, the late Ralph Quaranta and the late Dr. Anthony Quaranta). The family later moved to Lake Hopatcong where they founded the Jefferson Lumber and Millwork Company in 1947, which is still in operation today. Mary was indeed a business woman far ahead of her time. While her brothers worked “outside” in the shop and lumber yard, Mary worked “inside” running the business side of the company with her beloved sister-in law, the late Marie Quaranta, until her retirement at age 85. But above all things, Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother. She met her husband, the late Brennan Lytle, Esq., at a Navy dance at Picatinny Arsenal in 1955. Although Mary came to the dance with another date, she left with Brennan who was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps at the time. Mary accepted Brennan’s wedding proposal on their second date and they remained married until her husband’s untimely death in 1987. As a testimony to their love, Mary passed away on their 65th wedding anniversary. Mary’s keen business acumen was only surpassed by her love and devotion to her children, Anthony Lytle (Kathleen), Lisa Ranft (Robert III) and Robert Lytle, Esq. (Molly), nine grandchildren (Kristen, Anthony, Jr., Katie, Robert IV, Marissa, Alec, Brennan, Lauren, and Avery) and five great grandchildren (David, Jr., Jonathan, Everly, Brenton and Reagan). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s Life Celebration on Tuesday April 6 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Roads, Landing. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday April 7 at 10:00AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Lk. Hopatcong. Entombment will follow mass in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to Children’s Craniofacial Association (www.ccakids.org), Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org) or the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (www.hdsa.org).
