Obituary of John P. Mauro

John Peter Mauro of Hopatcong NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He was 79 years old. John was born on February 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John and the late Domenica (Cicceroni) Mauro. John was a custodian foreman employed by the Hopatcong Board of Education for 32 years before retiring. He also worked as a truck driver for Hall Lane Trucking in Kennedy Airport, NY. John was an avid sports fan, he was very fond of the NY Jets, NY Giants, NY Mets and the NY Yankees. In his earlier years, John was an accomplished athlete where he excelled at football (Positions: Defensive End, Tight End and Kicker), baseball and speed skating. John loved animals and had various pets throughout the years including dogs, birds and turtles. He was a car enthusiast and also collected Hess Trucks. Mr. Mauro was an avid walker and was always seen walking his dogs throughout Hopatcong. John took many family trips at Jones Beach and Coney Island where they all made lasting memories. Most importantly, John loved spending time with his cherished family. John is survived by his devoted son, Andrew & his wife, Michelle, his cherished grandchildren, Kristie and Todd and several loving nieces and nephews He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth in 2020, his twin daughters, Marybeth and Elizabeth and his brothers, Salvatore and Frank. John's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Wednesday, May 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. There will be a funeral mass on Thursday morning, May 13th at 10:00 am at St. Jude RC Church, 40 Maxim Drive, Hopatcong, NJ. All services are entrusted to the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home of Landing, NJ.
