Obituary of Richard Metzgar

Richard Metzgar, 82, of Dover, formerly of Netcong, passed away on Tuesday September 21, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in Dover. Born in Dover on May 23, 1939 to Floyd and Betty (Trezise) Metzgar, Richard grew up and lived most of his life in Netcong. He was a graduate of Netcong High School. Richard was well-known for his skills as a "grill-master" and expert smoker. He enjoyed fishing and music. He was a drummer for the musical group Gene Allen and the Pawns and often performed at many local establishments such as Aunt Kate's Tavern. In his younger years, Richard was a member of the Dover Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Richard was predeceased by his grandson, Ricky in 1996. Survivors include wife of over 40 years Mary Ellen (Clark), children Rich and wife, Eileen, Wendy Bayer and husband Jim, Christopher and significant other Jennifer, Kevin and wife Tammy and Tim and significant other Elizabeth, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters Bonnie Bredbenner and B.J. Restreppo and cousin Gary Repsher who Richard considered his best friend. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Richard's Life Celebration will include visiting on Monday September 27 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Tuesday September 28 at 11:00 AM from the funeral home. Family and friends may begin gathering at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Tuesday morning. Richard will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
