Obituary of Chester D. Togno

Chester D. Togno, 89, of Netcong, passed away on Sunday December 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Morristown on March 1, 1932 to the late Dominick and Nunziata (Verdi) Togno, Chet has resided in Netcong for many years. He attended Netcong Elementary and Netcong High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. After high school he proudly served in the US Navy on the battleship USS Missouri. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Seton Hall University and a Masters in Education and Administration from Newark State College. Chet was a school administrator with Jefferson Township High School prior to his retirement in 1995.

Chet was a parishioner of St. Michael RC Church in Netcong where he served as an usher and trustee. He enjoyed playing golf, watching college football, watching General Hospital with his sister, visiting friends in Florida and having lunch with "the guys". Chet was also a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Lucille (Esposito), children Lisa Burrowes and husband Buzz, William Togno and Susan Byrne and husband Patrick and grandchildren Paul Burrowes V, Michael Burrowes, Kayleigh Byrne, and Meghan Byrne. Chester was the youngest of eleven siblings and is survived by his sister Margaret Lamanna (Age 100).

Chet's Life Celebration will include visiting on Wednesday December 22 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday December 23 at 12:00 PM at St. Michael RC Church in Netcong. All are invited to meet at church for Mass. Chet will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Michael Church, 4 Church Street, Netcong, NJ 07857.
